Vicki has just returned from a fantastic dance weekend in Blackpool. The event was the 50th IVDC (Inter Varsity dance sport competition). Once a year all the UK universities meet at the Winter Gardens Blackpool for a fabulous dance event. This year was no exception when it came to talent and enthusiasm; there were so many competitors that many events were held in unison between the Spanish Ballroom and Empress Ballroom.
Surrey had many successes with Lauren and Michael winning the novice ballroom and being placed 3rd in the novice latin. Alexia and Doug achieved 6th in the Beginners quickstep. Everyone achieved call backs and with so many competitors this was no mean feat, all in all a fantastic day at the office! On a wonderful surprise note one of my most memorable moments of the day came when our rock and rollers Tammy and Roo placed 9th and Alex and Andrew placed 12th made it all the way to the semi finals. Just when we all thought it couldn’t get better Eleftheria and Chris made the rock and roll final placing 6th.
You are all total stars and I was so proud I thought I was going to burst. Finally we came to the team match; an amazing parade of all 32 universities circled the floor. Just when we thought things couldn’t get better Surrey managed to achieve a very respectable result in division 1. I feel Surreys dancers had a fantastic day and weren’t quite prepared for the emotional journey. They started hot and finished on fire!
Well done to each and every one of you. I think you are all total stars. I can’t wait for next year. Watch out Surreys coming! From your very proud coach on the day Vicki Frennessen
